The 4 main skin types: how to determine your skin type?

You may wonder why it's important to know your skin type, but the answer is very simple - knowing your skin type will help you to choose the right products for your skin. Well-chosen skincare products will give you the best results! There are generally four main skin types: normal, dry, oily and combination. Read on to find out what features can help you identify your own skin type.

If you are preparing to determine your skin type, the first thing you should do is wash your face with a mild cleanser, pat it dry and do not apply anything else to your skin. You should wait about 30-60 minutes, but it is very important not to apply anything to your skin or touch it with your hands during this time. After this time, you can start to analyse and type your facial skin.

Signs of different skin types:

DRY SKIN: If your skin is tight, looks plump, shows signs of flaking or has rough areas, it is likely that your skin is dry. With a dry skin type, the pores on the face are undilated and barely visible. You may also notice more pronounced fine lines. The most common problem for people with a dry skin type is dry skin all over the body. In addition to tightness, this skin type can often feel itchy and irritated.

NORMAL SKIN: If your skin looks balanced, is not too oily or dry, feels comfortable and does not show any signs of flaking or stretching, you probably have normal skin. This skin type is also characterised by undilated facial pores that are almost imperceptible. This type of skin has good elasticity. It is important to note that a very small percentage of people have a normal skin type.

MIXED SKIN: If you have both oily and dry skin, for example, if your skin is oily in the T-zone and your cheeks are drier, you are likely to have mixed skin. With a combination skin type, the pores on the face are noticeable and quite enlarged in the areas where the oiliness occurs. Often, this type of skin is plagued by rashes.

OILY SKIN: If your skin is shiny, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), and you notice larger pores, it is likely that you have oily skin. People with oily skin types often suffer from blackheads and other rashes.

If you are having difficulty determining your skin type or have specific skin problems, we recommend that you visit a beautician or dermatologist. They will professionally examine and assess your skin and make individual recommendations. Once you know your skin type, you can choose the skincare products that suit your specific needs and problems.
